What's not in Pai

At Pai Skincare Cream, we believe that the natural world provides us with all the goodness our skin needs.

That's why we use only the highest grade, plant-based ingredients in our products.
These are never grown using pesticides or extracted using chemical solvents which leave residues in the end product.

Many skin care manufacturers make false 'all-natural' claims, yet still contain any number of chemical irritants.

At Pai, we carefully formulate all of our products using the latest research and manufacturing processes to ensure they are the cleanest on the market today.

There are a number of natural and chemical ingredients that Pai does not use in its products:

  • No Alcohol - this is often used as a preservative in natural skin care creams. This type of ethyl alcohol (usually listed as 'alcohol denat.' on the label) can dry out the skin, cause irritation, trigger Rosacea flare-ups and prevent the absorption of Vitamin A - the lack of which promotes premature ageing.

  • No Artificial fragrances - these often contain phthalates and other irritating chemicals. They are the most frequent cause of allergic reactions to cosmetics.

  • No Beeswax (in our creams) - while a lovely natural ingredient, it is not well absorbed by the skin and is comedogenic (pore blocking). Pai does use Beeswax in its organic lip balm where it forms a protective barrier on lips to lock-in moisture and prevent chapping.

  • No Formaldehyde (including Sodium Hydroxymethylglycinate) - this is a harsh skin irritant and there are serious health concerns about exposure to this chemical.

  • No Sodium Lauryl Sulfate - this foaming agent is a harsh skin irritant and a bad trigger of skin allergie
  •
  • No Parabens (including Japanese Honeysuckle) - more and more people are becoming sensitised to this ingredient. Recent research has suggested it may have a weak oestrogenic effect and may cause DNA damage and premature ageing when exposed to sunlight.

At Pai we do not feel these and other safety concerns relating to Parabens have been proved - but nor have they yet been disproved, which is why we take a precautionary approach and do not use them.

  • No Phenoxyethanol - this is a skin irritant and has recently been banned for use in certified organic skin care products by Ecocert and COSMOS, the new EU organic certification standard.

  • No Petrochemicals - these are chemical ingredients derived from petroleum. Propylene Glycol is one of the more common petrochemicals used in skincare products for its moisturising properties. It is a bad skin irritant and triggers eczema.

  • No Phthalates - used as a fixative for fragrances. It is often absent from ingredient labels as many companies use "parfum" rather than list it separately. There are serious safety concerns surrounding this product in regard to reproductive health.
