Myth-1 There Are Seven Layers Of Skin

It’s not quite clear what this means. There are, in fact, three compartments which make up the skin: the epidermis, the dermis and the subcutaneous fat. The epidermis is the outer layer of the skin, which is constantly being renewed by migration of cells from the dermo-epidermal junction. It varies in thickness from area to area. The process of removing the ‘dead’ cells from the outer layer proceeds normally on its own in most people. Scrubbing off (exfoliating) the skin surface, which in the past has been popular and is now being revived, may have a place in certain circumstances but its widespread, uncritical use is not to be recommended. There is no practical value in the notion that the skin has seven layers.
